Myths vs. Truths in Black & Brown Mental Health

Myth: “Therapy is for white people.”

Truth: Therapy is for everyone. Healing is not bound by race — but cultural awareness in therapy matters.

Myth: “If you have faith, you don’t need therapy.”

Truth: Prayer and therapy can walk hand in hand. Faith is powerful, but God also gave us tools and people to help us heal.

Myth: “Strong Black/Brown women don’t break.”

Truth: Strength includes knowing when to rest, seek help, and let others pour back into you.

Myth: “Kids can’t be depressed — they’re too young.”

Truth: Black and Brown youth are experiencing rising rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide. Early support saves lives.

Myth: “Talking about mental health is airing dirty laundry.”

Truth: Talking about mental health breaks generational cycles of silence. Healing is not shameful — it’s freedom.

✨ Truth: We deserve to heal out loud.
